Sternum is a long flat bone. It is 15 centimetres in length. It is divided into three segments 1. Manubrium 2. Body 3. Xiphoid process Upper part manubrium It is quadrilateral in shape. It's lateral border joints with first rib pair. It's clavicular notch medial end of clavicle bone articulates. Body or middle part It lateral border forms joint with lower part of 2nd C.C. and 3rd C.C. to 6 C.C. and upper half of 7th C.C. What is Volkmann's process? Etiology and severity

Volkmann's ischemic contracture is a deformity of the hands,fingers and wrist caused by injured muscles of the forearm due to any reasons maybe accident, trauma or burn. Etiology Volkmann's ischemic contracture occurs when there is a lack of blood flow usually caused by increased pressure that results from swelling (compartment syndrome). There are 3 levels of severity 1 . Mild - flexion contracture of 2 or 3 fingers only, with no or without limited loss of sensation 2. Moderate - All fingers are flexed and the thumb is stuck in the palm, the wrist may be stuck in flexion and there is usually some loss of sensation in hand.  3. Severe - All the muscles of forearm that flexes and extends the fingers and wrist are involved, a severely disabled condition.

Myopathies are a heterogeneous group of disorders primarily affecting the skeletal muscle structure, metabolism, or channel function. They usually present with muscle weakness interfering in daily life activities. Muscle pain is also a common finding and some myopathies are associated with rhabdomyolysis. There are five types of myopathies. They are 1. Hereditary myopathy which is also called muscular dystrophy 2. Endocrine myopathy 3. Inflammatory myopathy 4. Metabolic myopathy 5.
